Deschutes Children's Foundation

How It Began

Human service organizations in Bend are caught between rising needs brought by a rapidly growing population, declining resources from public funding, and climbing costs of operation. The Better Together Capital Campaign is a cost-effective response to this situation. The Campaign will expand a proven model for using shared facilities to save resources and to promote collaborative and effective human services in Central Oregon.

Deschutes Children’s Foundation collaborative campuses increase the impact of limited funding for human services. By providing rent-free facilities and no-cost property management and by helping programs share operating costs, DCF saves resident programs an estimated $550,000 each year. This is money that resident programs use to serve more children and families.

The East Bend Campus

The Campaign will create a new, 13,000 square foot building on Daggett Lane in north east Bend. Adjacent to a new school and public park, the new campus will be welcoming and accessible. Extra-wide hallways will add to the comfortable atmosphere and light, airy classrooms will provide preschool aged children with an ideal learning environment. This project will help nine human service organizations to expand their programs, offering services to more children and families in need.

Rosie Bareis Community Campus

The Campaign will also include a 3,100 square foot addition of the KIDS Center facility at the Rosie Bareis Community Campus. The KIDS Center serves approximately 450 children annually who need evaluation and treatment for sexual abuse, physical and emotional abuse, and neglect. Two main services, medical evaluations and counseling, are provided.

As a result of the Campaign, ten partner organizations will be better equipped to meet the rising needs of our community, providing service to 3,000 more children and families per year. These facilities will have a tremendous positive impact, serving as an integral part of the infrastructure that works towards a healthy community.

Deschutes Children’s Foundation is proud to be the catalyst and manager of this project, allowing other programs’ staff and volunteers to focus on what they do so well.
