BendBroadband to Donate Holiday Giving Match Fund to Deschutes Children's Foundation
November 2, 2011 - BendBroadband has selected Deschutes Children’s Foundation to be the sole recipient of the BendBroadband Holiday Giving Match Fund. BendBroadband will provide a percentage match on all donations made to Deschutes Children’s Foundation before December 19, 2011.
This is the first year BendBroadband has selected only one nonprofit as the sole recipient for the entire fund. BendBroadband distributed the fund between four nonprofits in 2010.
“Deschutes Children’s Foundation indirectly supports many of the nonprofit agencies that we already support financially,” said Sonja Donohue, Community Relations Manager at BendBroadband. “As a company, we see a donation to Deschutes Children’s Foundation as a way to also support a large piece of the nonprofit community.”
As part of its mission, Deschutes Children’s Foundation manages four nonprofit centers in Bend, Redmond and La Pine, and donates the use of the office and classroom space to nonprofit and government agencies that directly serve children and families.
“BendBroadband’s support could not have come at a better time,” said Deschutes Children’s Foundation Executive Director, Kim McNamer. “We see the negative impact the economy is having on the community, and BendBroadband’s donation will ensure we can continue providing rent-free office space to 26 amazing nonprofit and government agencies serving so many children and families in our community.”
Deschutes Children’s Foundation practices a model of co-location that puts like-minded nonprofit and government agencies together in a shared facility to promote collaboration and efficient services. “The end result is nonprofits share resources to serve more children and families,” said McNamer.
“The synergy between the nonprofits that work out of Deschutes Children’s Foundation’s community campuses is a model of efficiency that will only provide children and families with increased access to life-changing services,” said Donohue.

Outpouring of Support
August 26, 2011 - The tech community's response to the DCF server issues was amazing! Individuals and business representatives called and emailed to offer support, advice and resources to help get DCF's server up and running again. One community member donated a used server, and the Bank of the Cascades IT department has been working with BITS, Inc. to find the necessary components to find a long-term solution. DCF staff is grateful for this outpouring of support from the community!
Technology Woes
August 25, 2011 - Until further notice, please call the Rosie Bareis Community Campus at 541-388-3101 if you need to get in touch with DCF staff. The Deschutes Children's Foundation server is out of commission indefinitely. DCF email communication runs through the server so DCF staff cannot be reached through email until the server is up and running again.
BITS, Inc. is currently diagnosing the server issues, but the outlook is bleak. The current server lost its main hard drive, and the motherboard - which allows for communication between the main and secondary hard drives - has failed.
DCF staff is looking into ways of fixing this situation. There are three options available right now: buying a used server, buying a new, warrantied server, or going into "the cloud" and eliminating the need for a physical server. If you have any experience with any of these options please call 541-388-3101.
Regardless, this replacement is an unforeseen expense. If you are able to help DCF either through a donation of a server or through a cash donation for the purchase of a new server and the labor to configure the new server, you can call 541-388-3101 or make a donation through paypal.
